The State Leadership Conference is an annual competition hosted by FBLA chapters across the nation, and unique to every state. The goal of the RI SLC is to showcase the business skills of students through competitive events, and allow the top placing teams and individuals to qualify for the National Leadership Conference. Below are listed various tips to help you prepare for success in your FBLA competitive events
Competition Success Tips
1. Prepare in advance - In an effort to deliver the most polished and professional presentation at the SLC, it is essential to plan in advance. Instead of leaving your report or PowerPoint for the last minute, create a schedule in which you establish dates to collaborate with team members (or your chapter adviser) to work on your project.
2. Practice before states - Before the state competition, it is extremely beneficial to have at least one practice presentation in front of chapter members, your adviser, or even your family, where they mock "grade" you based on the official FBLA competitive events rubric.
3. Calm your nerves - If you are nervous before your competition, instead of overthinking and over-rehearsing, try to relax yourself with deep breathing or counting to ten.
